Thoughts of collections

I was never really a collector. My Grandma, however was, she collected salt and pepper shakers. As a child, I spent a lot of time with her, and got to know her collection pretty well. Some of them, like the dutch boy and girl on a bench, she would let me take out and play with. I wasn't allowed to mention that to any of my cousins, it was our secret.

When Grandma died, in 1998, my mom got the salt and peppers. We were in the middle of a kitchen remodel, and she didn't have room for them, so my husband left the wall of the dining room empty. We put Gram's cabinet there, and seeing the collection together again was so great. Here are a couple of pictures of her collection, now in my home

The first picture is the left side, and the second is the right side. My teapot collection is now on top of Gram's salt and pepper collection :)

I'm not a collector either, but am somehow getting a collection of teapot and I don't even know how. I usually get one a year from this lady in a study group for my birthday and I don't even like her much! It is too weird. But, I used love visiting houses where someone had a 'collection.'

I like that you have such a nice remeberance of the objects.

These are wonderful. How great that you can look at these and remember your grandmother. You must have been her favorite {don't tell your cousins I said that}.

You're so lucky to have your Grandmother's collection!! I have my Grandmother's crystal....it means the world to me. So many times, collections are tossed aside when family members pass. Having something from a loved one should be cherished.....even if it's just one out of the collection. Warmest bear hugs, Aleta

I like collecting shakers too. An easy thing to collect and it doesn't take up too much room. I love your grandmother's collection and your teapots :)

What a treasure you have there! I am sure it makes you happy everytime you look at them. I collect vintage photos and ledgers and old books and... well, you get the picture! LOL!!! Hope you have a wonderful day sweetie! Love, Jamie (Mom is getting a list of Yo-Yo names for me-I was unsure about who was an Empress and who was a Princess) I can't wait to cook up something with you:) Love, Jamie
